The Digital Art and Design major emphasizes the synthesis of artistic
expression and technological expertise in a curriculum that places interactive digital design in the larger context of the humanities and society. Coursework focuses on art and design, computer applications and the study of interactivity. The Digital Art and Design major provides students with in-depth, hands-on experience in creating art through both traditional and new media. This major emphasizes artistic creativity, experimentation and technological competence grounded in a critical understanding of the arts and related areas of the humanities.

Digital Art and Design Objectives (BA)

  • Select and implement the appropriate processes, tools and techniques needed to produce a work of art
  • Create static, dynamic, kinetic, generative and interactive digital artworks using the elements and principles of design
  • Demonstrate fundamental typographic skills associated with the use of type and letterform in design and layout 
  • Use the computer as both art tool and display medium to explore and express one's unique creative voice
  • Develop concepts and implement creative visual solutions for digital design problems
  • Capture, edit, composite and manipulate digital images
  • Plan, design and prepare layouts, designs and works of art for digital printmaking
  • Fluently compose formal and semantic analyses of works of art
  • Critically analyze the arts of different cultures, and integrate these artistic concepts into new designs
  • Identify various works of art with particular genres, cultures, times or places
  • Recognize the connections of visual arts to all learning
