Mardi Gras Favorite Injected with UAT Flavor

Fat Tuesday received a shot of UAT flavor, as the University Cafe celebrated the religious event with Jello-made dessert concoctions, packing an energy punch.

Chef Jason Stewart created the self-titled "Jello Power-Ups" as a homage to more risque Mardi Gras brews and the World of Warcraft-inspired Mana Energy Potion, looking to bring a jolt to the Mardi Gras-themed menu. Blending AMP Energy Drink and Red Bull reductions into Jello mixes, the experimental creation took an hour and a half from start to finish.

"When I went to do the Mardi Gras menu for Tuesday-because it was Fat Tuesday-I was like, 'How can I make Jello shots that are legal?' And so we pushed the envelope a little bit," said Stewart.

Reaction to the Jello shots was favorable, with Stewart himself surprised that "they actually tasted pretty good." Students and staff liked the energy boost from the dessert.

"They definitely had a zing; we had a couple of employees that were climbing the walls after they sampled a couple," said Stewart.

Stewart sees a future for the energy-packed blend, hoping that increased interest will allow for the creation of more flavors. He sees the Power-Ups as another example of UAT-inspired creation.

"If anybody's going to come across the board and invent something new for the tech world, it should be UAT."
