How To Apply


The University of Advancing Technology places great emphasis on the importance of thinking in higher education. UAT's Thinking Scholarships recognize and honor students whose original works and ideas will aid the University's efforts in elevating thinking to a discipline worthy of study.

To maintain Thinking Scholarship eligibility, all recipients must do the following:
  • Maintain required college GPA for scholarship
  • Make satisfactory progress towards completion of UAT degree objectives
  • Uphold any and all stipulations of the scholarship contract

Scholarships
The Edward de Bono Scholarship
Dr. Edward de Bono is known worldwide for his work in designing the formal creative tools of lateral and parallel thinking. He has written 70 books with translations into 40 languages and has been invited to lecture in 58 countries. He currently acts as advisor to various governments, cities, regional governments and global organizations dealing on a macro level with diverse topics including economy, social policy, education and conflict resolution. He was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford and holds an M.A. in psychology and physiology from Oxford. He also holds a Ph.D from Cambridge and an M.D. from the University of Malta. He has held appointments at the universities of Oxford, London, Cambridge and Harvard.
  • To qualify for this scholarship you must meet these minimum requirements:
    • Minimum CGPA of 3.5 or completed Associate's/Bachelor's degree with minimum CGPA of 3.4
    • Documentation and description of involvement in clubs/organizations/groups with brief explanation of how you fostered creativity and new thinking within each organization.

The Margaret Wheatley Scholarship
Dr. Margaret J. Wheatley is an expert at helping organizations that are wrestling with how to maintain their integrity and effectiveness as they cope with relentless pressures for speed and change in chaotic environments. She has worked on every inhabited continent and considers herself a global citizen. She is currently president of the Berkana Institute and holds a M.A. in systems thinking from New York University and a Ph.D. in administration, planning and social policy with a focus on organizational behavior and change from Harvard.
  • To qualify for this scholarship you must meet these minimum requirements
    • Female
    • Minimum high school CGPA of 3.4 or completed Associate's/Bachelor's degree with minimum CGPA of 3.3
    • Show/give examples of prior leadership experience and excellence. Applicants must list and describe all clubs, groups, organizations, etc. that they have been involved in and give detailed examples of their leadership role and accomplishments within each organization.

The Fritjof Capra Scholarship
Dr. Fritjof Capra is a physicist, systems theorist and founding director of the Center for Ecoliteracy in Berkley, California, which promotes ecology and systems thinking in primary and secondary education. Dr. Capra received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the University of Vienna. He has authored many books, four of which have gone on to become international bestsellers, The Tao of Physics (1975), The Turning Point (1982), Uncommon Wisdom (1988), and The Web of Life (1996). In addition to substantial research in both systems theory and physics, Dr. Capra explored the philosophical and social implications of contemporary science to international acclaim.
  • To qualify for this scholarship you must meet these minimum requirements:
    • Minimum high school CGPA of 3.4 or completed Associate's/Bachelor's degree with minimum CGPA of 3.3
    • Show a completed body of work or project (e.g., a fully playable game, polished movie, the utilization of web services, analysis of computer forensic tools, work of art, workable model, completed invention, etc.)

The Michio Kaku Scholarship
Dr. Michio Kaku is a co-creator of string field theory and an enthusiastic "popularizer of science" whose academic pursuits include his continuing quest for a Theory of Everything that would unite all the known physical forces in the Universe into one theory. Kaku is the author of several best-selling books and is the host of the radio shows Science Fantastic and Explorations, as well as the television documentaries 2057 and BBC's series on time. He currently holds the Henry Semat Chair and Professorship in theoretical physics at the City College of New York and has a Ph.D degree from the Berkeley Radiation Laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley.
  • To qualify for this scholarship you must meet these minimum requirements:
    • Minimum high school CGPA of 3.4 or completed Associate's/Bachelor's degree with minimum CGPA of 3.3
    • Show a completed body of work or project (e.g., a fully playable game, polished movie, the utilization of web services, analysis of computer forensic tools, work of art, workable model, completed invention, etc.)

The Ray Kurzweil Scholarship
Ray Kurzweil is one of the world's leading futurists and technological visionaries. During his career as an inventor and entrepreneur, Kurzweil developed numerous groundbreaking technology systems. He is the author of several books, including The Age of Spiritual Machines and The Singularity Is Near. In these books, as well as in many essays he has written on related topics, Kurzweil expounds on his theory that in this age of ever accelerating computational power, the world will soon undergo a world changing Singularity in which artificial intelligence will surpass human intelligence, leading to an awakening in the universe and a new type of humanity that is integrated with machines. Ray Kurzweil is also a leading proponent of human longevity and nanotechnology, both of which, he believes, will considerably improve conditions on Earth.
  • To qualify for this scholarship you must meet these minimum requirements:
    • No minimum GPA requirement
    • Submit copies of completed project/workable model or invention (e.g., a fully playable game, polished movie, the utilization of web services, analysis of computer forensic tools, work of art, workable model, completed invention, etc.)
